Jaycees host fly-in and pancake feed
Public invited to view the planes, enjoy breakfast
BY Grace Johnson
The annual Nebraska City Jaycees Fly-In and Pancake Feed is
set for Sunday, April 29, at the Nebraska City Municipal Airport.
An all-you-can eat breakfast will be held from 7-11 a.m., with
pilots from around the region set to fly in for the breakfast.
“Last year the weather prevented any planes from flying in, however,
this year we should have over 40 planes from all over Nebraska,
Kansas, Iowa and Missouri flying in,” said Jaycees Individual
Development Vice-President Laura Steinman.
Those who drive to the event will get the chance to see a variety
of different planes and visit with the pilots.
While the fly-in breakfast draws a number of repeat flyers, Steinman
said the event usually features a number of new participants as
well.
The 2005 event also drew 45 planes, 31 of which participated the
year before.
Cost of the breakfast is $3.50 for adults, $2.50 for children
5-12 years, and free for kids under age five. Proceeds from the
breakfast will go to support the year-around community programs
sponsored by the Jaycees in Nebraska City.
For those unfamiliar with the area, the Nebraska City Airport
is located four miles south of Nebraska City on Highway 75.
The annual pancake feed has a rich history which dates back 40
plus years. Awards have been given out annually to pilots each
year for distinctions such as furthest distance traveled, oldest
plane, oldest pilot and youngest pilot, among others.
The Jaycees Fly-in is made possible through the help and support
of the Nebraska City Airport Authority and the Nebraska City Fire
and Rescue.
