LIBRARY

Auburn residents can take pride in their library, constructed in 1995 and dedicated in 1996. The Auburn Memorial Library, located at 1810 Courthouse Ave., houses more than 22,000 books, 1500 videos/DVDs and 700 audio tapes.
It has a large collection of micro-film of the Nemaha County newspapers dating from the 1860s to the present.
The library has wireless capability and use of the library is free to all residents of Nemaha County.
The original library facility dates back to 1914 when a group of citizens met at the Auburn High School to establish a public library.
For the following 13 years, the library was housed in a variety of locations until a building was erected at 1118 15-1/2 St. on a lot donated by the Allen family in 1924.
Currently the library is preparing for an addition. An architect has been hired, and a fundrasing drive is underway. Plans include adding on approximately 2,600 sq. ft. The new space will provide a seprate children’s area and a larger meeting/community room. The current meeting room will be converted into a computer lab.
Hours at the library are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m;, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
