MAYOR'S WELCOME

Welcome to Auburn, Nebraska, county seat of Nemaha County. We think you will find the quality of life in Auburn second to none. Auburn is a wonderful community made better by the attractions and people of neighboring communities in our county. Brownville is the tourist center of Nemaha County with a number of museums, a concert series hall, Village Theater, Merriweather Lewis dredge museum, Whiskey Run Creek Winery and many other items of historical interest. A few miles south of Brownville is the town of Nemaha, which is the gateway town to Indian Cave State Park, the most picturesque state park in the Midwest. Peru is the proud home of Peru State College, Nebraska’s first college. Auburn benefits tremendously from the events and activities at the college.
Auburn maintains a vibrant business community and offers consumers the opportunity to shop at home. The 3,400 residents of Auburn have three distinct business districts to choose from: downtown, courthouse square, and Crestview Shopping Center. The medical needs of residents are capably handled by the doctors at the Auburn Family Health Center and the Nemaha County Hospital, which recently completed a multi-million dollar expansion and retrofit.
Every June on Father’s Day our friends in Johnson host the world’s largest chicken barbeque, along with a weekend celebration that draws thousands to this neat community. Other towns in the county also host community celebrations, giving residents of Nemaha County an activity to attend every weekend during the summer.
A few years ago Auburn residents revived the historic band shell, which now hosts various music and entertainment events at Legion Park. Every month from May through October a different event occurs at this National Registry of Historic Places site.
Alumni of Auburn Public Schools boast of degrees from many major colleges. We are proud of them and the education they received at Auburn Public Schools.
We are also proud of the Auburn City Recreational Program, which provides youth of our community unlimited sports venues.
Auburn is a great place to raise a family, live in retirement, or make your mark in the business world. We welcome guests, visitors and many new residents to our town.
Mayor of Auburn
Robert B. Engles
