NEMAHA COUNTY

Nemaha County, in the southeast corner of Nebraska, is bordered by Johnson, Otoe, and Richardson counties and the Missouri River. Auburn serves as the county seat and commercial center.
History is the cornerstone of the county. Brownville, which lies seven miles east of Auburn, was the original county seat. Brownville is the host to thousands of visitors each year.
Auburn is home to numerous antique shops and a museum with the history of the area apparent in its numerous displays.
Nebraska’s oldest college, Peru State College, is in Peru. Nebraska’s Peru State College Library and alumni center are filled with more than 125 years of history.
Attractions frequently visited in Nemaha County include the mercantile post office in Julian, the shops and river boats in Brownville, Coryell Park near Johnson and Brock and St. John’s stone church near Johnson.
There is no shortage of recreational opportunities in Nemaha County. Visitors and residents can swim in Auburn and in Peru. Golfers are very welcome in Auburn.
Campers and visitors can witness history while camping at the Brownville State Recreation Area or at Indian Cave
State Park.
Hunters flock to Nemaha County for pheasant, deer, turkey, dove and quail. Fishermen enjoy challenges on the Missouri River and its tributaries.
