Fire Department

The Nebraska City Volunteer Fire Department pre-dates any other fire department in Nebraska. It was founded in 1856.

The department currently has 45 members and covers an area of 110 square miles.

The fire department has four trucks and the rural fire department has five trucks.

Trucks include an 85-foot aerial tower with a 1,250 gallon per minute pump, and two 1,500 gallon per minute pumpers. A new 105-foot aerial truck is expected to arrive in September.

The  fire department is a member of mutual aid agreements in Otoe County and Fremont County, Iowa.

In case of emergency, call 911. Non-emergency calls can be directed to 873-3579.

Alan Viox is the fire chief and Dennis Marshall and Dave Holland are assistant chiefs.
