Warning Sirens

Otoe County
Emergency Management has its office in the basement of the Otoe
County Courthouse in Nebraska City.
Nebraska
City has outdoor warning sirens at eight locations. In the case
of a tornado or winds in excess of 70 mph, the sirens are sounded
only upon a physical report from the National Weather Service
in Valley, Neb., or from a storm spotter in Otoe County. Emergency
management has 14 storm spotters and relies heavily upon law enforcement
and volunteer firefighters.
The sirens
will also be sounded when the lives or property of the Nebraska
City residents are jeopardized. Nebraska City is a scheduled evacuation
recipient for residents within the emergency evacuation zone of
Cooper Nuclear Station.
In the
event the sirens are sounded, residents are encouraged to seek
shelter immediately and tune into KNCY or KFAB for more information.
