By Kirt Manion
Hamburg Reporter

Three fumbles on punt returns didn’t hurt East Mills in a 56-36 win over Hamburg in the season finale Friday night.

East Mills covered all three fumbles, thus preventing turnovers, and, offensively, struck for 22 points in the first quarter to provide most of the final margin.

An 11-yard run and a two-point pass provided the first points in a three touchdown scoring spree by East Mills in the first quarter.

Other scores were posted on a 38-yard pass and a 60-yard run.

Hamburg fought back and drew within one score.

Klinton Hansen scored on a five-yard run in the late first quarter and Kaleb Kahue caught a 35-yard pass from Doug Raymond to open the second quarter.

A two-point run by Jacob Raymond had the score at 22-14.

A 24-yard scoring pass and two-point pass put the lead back to 30-14 for East Mills, but a 12-yard Doug Raymond run in the third quarter made the score 30-20.

A 50-yard scoring pass and a 4-yard touchdown run by East Mills had the score at 44-20.

The two teams traded scores from there with Hamburg posting a touchdown on a 2-yard run by Doug Raymond and a 34-yard scoring pass from Raymond to Joel DeLong.

East Mills had a score on a 25-yard run and added a four-yard scoring run.

Those numbers put the total yardage for Hamburg at 274, compared with 440 by East Mills.
Doug Raymond was the individual rushing leader for the Wildcats with 83 yards, while Hansen had 53 and Kahue had 35.
