Wildcat VB team falls in spite of improved serving

By Kirt Manion
Hamburg Reporter

Improved serving went for naught as the Hamburg volleyball team dropped a three-game match to Fairfax on Monday night by scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-16.

Wildcat Coach Amanda Walther said the Wildcats played a bit flat and fell behind in each game. Despite those deficits, Coach Walther said her team continued to fight and got back to within four or five points, only to have Fairfax re-extend its advantage.

“We weren’t ready to play,” Walther said. “We were flat. It was a Monday.”

On the plus side, Coach Walther said the Wildcats posted improved serving numbers and actually out served their foe on Monday.

In other recent action, Hamburg beat Clarinda Academy in three games and fell to Stanton in three games in back-to-back Oct. 6 Corner Conference tournament matches.

The highlight of the two matches, Walther said, was the team’s competitiveness in one of the games against Stanton.

The Wildcats led 24-22 in one of the games, but fell short.

Hamburg was scheduled to return to action Tuesday at Farragut before wrapping up the regular season at 5:30 p.m. at East Mills on Thursday.
Districts will be Wednesday, Oct. 22,
at Farragut against the winner of Farragut and Sidney. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
